The Issue

We are petitioning to increase the number of dogs allowed per household in Roanoke County from 3 to 4. With the exception of Salem City, this is lower than the other localities including Roanoke City. You may ask what difference this number makes. Our local pound, Regional Center for Animal Care and Protection (RCACP) is a high intake shelter, therefore many dogs, most of which are wonderful dogs, are euthanized due to lack of space. Staff and volunteers work very hard to find homes for them or find a rescue so they can be fostered. Unfortunately there are not enough of either to go around. We know they can’t all be saved but a change in the limit could save many by fostering or adopting. It is very surprising that residents who live in Roanoke City have a limit of 4 dogs when they are much more limited in space but Roanoke County residents, who typically have more space per household, are limited to 3 dogs. Many have to give up a pet when they move here due to limit which means another dog at RCACP. YOUR SIGNATURE COULD SAVE A LIFE!!!! WE APPRECIATE YOUR SUPPORT BUT PLEASE ONLY SIGN THIS PETITION IF YOU ARE A RESIDENT OF ROANOKE COUNTY.
