Road Safety on Moss Road
Road Safety on Moss Road
The Issue
We urgently call upon both Falkirk and Stirling Council and Forth Valley Police to address critical road safety issues on the Moss Road, which has culminated in the tragic deaths of 3 young people on Friday 26th July 2024 .
This incident and many near misses have confirmed our ongoing safety concerns and have highlighted the need for immediate and effective measures to protect all road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, dog walkers, horse riders, motorists, wild life and the many children growing up in the area.
Background:
In recent months, there have been numerous accidents and near-misses on this road many of which could have been prevented with proper speed safety measures in place.
The increased volume of traffic over the years due to the Inches and Kinnaird and increased housing development on the Moss Road itself, has led to the current speed limit being inadequate for the safety of users.
The lack of adequate signage, and policing of the speed limits, plus poorly maintained roads are just a few of the issues contributing to the dangerous conditions. However, the main reason is the speeding drivers.
These conditions threaten the lives and well-being of our community and create a sense of fear that affects our quality of life.
Our Requests
We respectfully request the following actions be taken to improve safety on the Moss Road
- Installation of Speed limits and Traffic Calming Measures:
Implement speed bumps and other traffic calming measures outside of the developments between the Paddock and The Oaks, to reduce speeding and improve safety for our children, pedestrians, dog walkers, cyclists and our ability to leave our streets safely as motorists. - Improved Signage and Road Markings
Ensure that all road signs and markings are clear, visible, and with reduced speed limits . This includes installing a new stop sign at the junction of B9124, and any new signs necessary and repainting faded road markings. - Road Maintenance
Conduct regular maintenance of roads to repair potholes, cracks, and other surface issues that pose a danger to road users. - Public Awareness Campaign
Launch public awareness campaign to educate drivers, about road safety practices and the importance of adhering to speed limits in this area. - Enforcement of Speed Limits
Increase the presence of traffic enforcement officers to ensure compliance with speed limits, on a regular basis
Conclusion
We believe that the safety of our community should be a priority.
By implementing these measures, we can create a safer and more secure environment for everyone. We urge you to take action to address these concerns and prevent further accidents and injuries on the Moss Road.
