The Issue

Are you tired of misogyny and sexism being imposed on young scholars?

Our goal is to change the dress code -- let us wear off the shoulder tops, tank tops, normal shorts, etc.

The rules being enforced on us are not only unfair and misogynistic but teach young women that the way THEY dress and express themselves directly objectify and sexualize them. Instead of going to the root issue, fixing the behavior of young men that are "distracted" by NON-SEXUAL body parts of a woman, (like shoulders, legs, etc.) and setting them straight so they can be productive citizens to our society, they direct the blame to young women who are simply wearing non provocative clothing in wishes of expressing themselves or just existing as a human. This teaches young scholars that it's their fault they are being preyed on, objectified, dehumanized. Not only this, but other institutions, like Ignite, (one of the highest scoring schools in Kentucky) have little dress code, allow for expression, and do perfectly fine. This is because they target the issue, not the victim.

So, the issue has been made clear - and signing this petition and peacefully protesting in your own terms can help make a change for not only us, but future young women who will be attending this school.

At the end of the day, no matter beliefs, we're all women and we need to stick up for each other. We shouldn't have to question our safety or validity in a building we are forced to be in.
