The Issue

On December 12, 2025, Riziki Ilenere fell victim to the devastating impacts of unchecked cyber bullying and tragically lost her life. Riziki was targeted by individuals she believed to be friends, people she trusted and even financially supported. Rather than offering companionship and support, these individuals exploited her kindness, mocked her appearance, her disability, her mental health struggles, and even her service dog. They went as far as encouraging Riziki to take her own life, an encouragement she heartbreakingly acted upon during a TikTok live stream.

This tragedy underscores a critical gap in our current legislative framework regarding cyber bullying, especially on social media platforms like TikTok. Incidents like these are disturbingly common, where vulnerable users find themselves at the mercy of merciless bullies without significant legal recourse to protect them.

We are calling for the urgent strengthening of cyber bullying laws, specifically tailored to address the pervasive nature of online harassment on platforms like TikTok. It's crucial to establish stringent legal repercussions for those who engage in such abusive behavior online, to deter potential bullies, and to protect vulnerable individuals from suffering mental and emotional harm.

Concrete steps must be taken. We propose the implementation of mandatory reporting mechanisms on TikTok and similar platforms so that abusive content can be quickly flagged and addressed. There should also be robust support systems for victims that provide psychological assistance and guidance on seeking legal action. Education and awareness campaigns must be launched to promote respect and kindness online, empowering users to stand up against bullying and report it without fear.

Riziki's loss is a painful reminder of the real and serious consequences of cyber bullying. We must act now to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future. Let us push for stronger legislation and systemic changes that ensure TikTok and other social media platforms are safe spaces for everyone.

Please sign this petition to demand more effective cyber bullying laws, protect vulnerable users, and honor Riziki's memory by preventing future tragedies.
