Suspension of online learning for students of Rizal Technological University

The Issue

The students of Rizal Technological University wish to file a request towards the skeletal administration of the institution to cancel online classes.

A memo was released dated march 17,2020 that encourages professors to continue the use of alternative learning modes (i.e. online classes) for the rest of the quarantine period advising students without proper internet connection and resources to participate in online classes to submit online class activities the dates after the community quarantine period.

this petition aims to eliminate the use of alternative learning modes for the rest of the community quarantine period for the following reasons:

-Some students lack the appropriate resources to participate in alternative learning modes such as: proper and stable internet connectivity, laptops, cellphones and other electronic devices that will be used in these alternative learning modes.

-Students who believe these online classes are mandatory might take steps to participate in these alternative learning modes that are detrimental to their health, such as going outside to cybercafes, borrowing electronic devices, or seek internet connectivity, these all involve going outside and risking their own health.

-The crisis, at this time of need, where employees are being suspended without pay, students parents have bills to pay, and given the institutions student population with some even working as they study, the financial constraints of the loss of income impact the efficiency of students studying, due to the brevity of the situation,we believe it is better that the students be free of the stress of worrying about due dates, even for just the period of the community quarantine, to be able to come back more ready to learn than ever.
