Remove Speed breakers on Eliozu Expressway (before & after Obi Wali Cultural center)

Remove Speed breakers on Eliozu Expressway (before & after Obi Wali Cultural center)

The Issue

The newly introduced speed breakers have constituted a nuisance to road users. These are some of the reasons why we believe they should be removed immediately. The speed breakers have

1.  Added an extra hour to commute times.

2. Increased stress for parents/guardians transporting their children/ wards to school.

3. Facilitated loss of productive man hours

4. Decrease the quality of life for the people living in the vicinity of the expressway

5. Increased the level of  pollution from stalling vehicles on the expressway. This can lead to increased risk for those with Asthma.

6. now made it  possible for people to be targeted by criminals.

7. Caused motorists to drive "one way" with impunity just to avoid the traffic.

8. Caused people to miss their flights and countless business opportunities.

9. Finally the gridlock can eventually become a death trap if there is an emergency and someone needs to get medical attention (en route to a hospital).

If the intent was to prevent accidents, I foresee  a potential for major accidents especially for trucks/trailers and tankers that might be unaware of the 3 to 4 consecutive speed breakers hidden behind a bend just before the Eliozu flyover. If in negotiating the bend, they apply their brakes fully, anything can happen.

I propose that those "in charge" can look into the following

(a) Replace the speed breakers/ bumps by installing "RUMBLE STRIPS/ STUDS" at well calculated intervals; these have proven to be more effective than speed bumps.

(b) Consider mounting road signs with speed limits and warnings like "slow down", "sharp bend ahead"

(c) Install CCTV and prosecute hit and run offenders or speed limit violators

(d) Ensure the road is well lit

I am sure the Civil Engineers among us can proffer other solutions.

Thank you
