Riverhead Raceway: Remove Offensive Native American Statue

Riverhead Raceway: Remove Offensive Native American Statue
The Issue
Riverhead Raceway is one of the oldest stock car race tracks in the United States, built in 1949, located on County Route 25 in Riverhead, New York it is the only auto raceway on Long Island. Riverhead Raceway is hosts the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series.
Riverhead Raceway prominently displays a racially insensitive 20+ ft. statue of a Native American dubbed "Chief Running Fair". Tens of thousands of people will pass by and see this racially insensitive statue every day, due to its location on an extremely high-traffic road.
The current owners of Riverhead Raceway, Ed and Connie Partridge were looking to "beautify" the front of the property as recently as February 2020. Removing this racially insensitive statue would be a great start.
The previous owners of the raceway bought the statue in April of 1982 when the Danbury State Fair sold all of it's remaining "Muffler Men statues", and is an unfortunate reminder of an offensive "trend" and time in America.
Riverhead Raceway is sponsored by many local groups including Stony Brook Medicine and Teacher's Federal Credit Union, and also national groups including Advance Auto Parts and Miller Lite.
