Currently, there is an expansion project - and beautification of 'Riverwalk Mitch McConnell Park' in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The project is aimed to transform the 70 acre area around Mitch McConnell Park into a premier outdoor recreational area, and economic hub. This park was originally named 'Riverfront Park', and in 2004 when Mitch McConnell secured federal funding to be used to upgrade the sidewalks, and associated infrastructure - the parks' name was changed to 'Mitch McConnell Park'.

A simple Social Media Post by me (Derek Calkins) covering the progress of this new project - that included the name of the park - sparked concern, and outrage over the park being named after a Politician. Citizens of Bowling Green Kentucky have expressed how they would like the park renamed - preferably to something more fitting to Bowling Green's historical value. In conclusion, we the people of Bowling Green, KY propose either Mitch McConnell's name be removed from the park officially - or the park be renamed all together.
