Our city of Bendigo Central Business District has seen an alarming increase in youth crime incidents. This trend, which extends to our public transport systems, shopping plazas, and parks, poses a significant threat to our safety and community harmony. A collaborative report by Victoria Police and Crime Statistics Agency in 2020 indicated a 15% rise in youth involvement in criminal activities across these settings. This is an alarming surge that requires urgent remedial action.

Through this petition, we call upon local government and relevant authorities to implement proactive strategies to curtail this growing issue. Effective measures could include increased patrolling in identified hotspots, provision of constructive activities for young individuals, and the initiation of educational programs about the consequences of criminal behaviour.

We believe that in collaboration with schools, families, and social/mental health support services, the rate of youth crime can be systematically reduced.
