The Issue

Dear Board of Education,
Students of Ridgewood would like to inform you of our opinion. We feel that you made a big decision without concerning our thoughts and feelings. Many students are behind in their classes and use Monday as a day to catch up or even get ahead for the week. Many students have had much more work piled on them for outside of class, which we understood when we had another day to complete this work. Now we will have less time, which I believe will cause more students to fall behind and others to fall farther. We know that our parents were the ones to voice their opinions, but they don't have to work and learn under these conditions. They don't truly understand what they are pleading for us to do. Another concern we have is that Monday will take away all our time and we won't learn anything. The classes we have are already taking 5- 10 minutes to start their lessons, by the time students sign into all their classes and for teachers to take attendance and start, the class is over. This will lead them to assigning more homework. Which leads to another issue that not only have you taken away are homework time, you are most likely adding a bigger workload, despite if you tell teachers not to. In the end, many students are still balancing sports and jobs (many students work during these hours) are going to be more stressed, more behind, and overall hate school even more. This would make them less motivated to complete good work.
