Ribble Estuary Bridge

Ribble Estuary Bridge

The Issue

It takes quite a while to travel from Southport to Blackpool or Lancaster or beyond to the Lake District, and yet they aren't that far away. Recently I have been puzzled as to why there isn't a bridge across the Ribble Estuary linking to the north and south regions.

A bridge would link Liverpool, Chester and Southport to,Lancaster, Blackpool and the lakes and vice versa.

It costs me at least £10 to drive and takes well over an hour at least. Not to mention the busy roads, road works and pollution.

I think most people would be happy to pay something like a £5 toll to cross a bridge. There are over 18 million visitors to Blackpool alone each year. If you think about the millions of visitors travelling north to south and vice versa each year that would be millions of pounds in revenue.

The government talk a lot about levelling up and the northern powerhouse. In these days of financial strife I think they need to back it up.

So in conclusion I strongly believe it would save people time, money, reduce traffic and pollution as well as boost tourism. In addition once the bridge is paid for, it would also have the potential to create funds to care for the area and protect wildlife.

Let's make Merseyside and Lancashire beautiful and save some money.
