Rezone Downtown Albemarle Property for Faith Alive Ministries

The Issue

In Stanly County, the reality is stark: there are over 75 children currently in the foster care system, yet only 23 homes that are licensed to provide these children with the love and security they desperately need. This imbalance results in children spending their nights not in warm beds, but on air mattresses at the Stanly County Department of Social Services (D.S.S.). These children, who are already vulnerable and facing unimaginable uncertainties, deserve better.

Faith Alive Ministries is stepping up to change this situation. To better serve our community, we are asking for the rezoning of a property in downtown Albemarle from residential to commercial. This change will allow the space to function doubly as a home office for Faith Alive Ministries—dedicated to addressing the physical and emotional needs of orphans, widows, and the broken-hearted—and as a temporary overnight accommodation for children just entering foster care.

By granting this rezoning request, Stanly County will provide these children a safe and secure environment until they can be matched with long-term solutions. This interim care space is desperately needed given the current constraints of the D.S.S. Without this change, children will continue to face nights in impersonal spaces rather than supportive, stable settings.

Moreover, the city of Albemarle has an opportunity to support a vital local ministry that has consistently demonstrated its commitment to the community. Faith Alive Ministries has been instrumental in providing compassionate care and will only be more effective in a properly zoned facility.

The transition of this property’s zoning aligns perfectly with the city’s goals to enhance community welfare and support at-risk populations. We urge the city council to RE-consider the immediate and far-reaching benefits that this rezoning decision can achieve not just for Faith Alive Ministries, but most importantly, for the children of our county who need it the most.

Join us in advocating for a future where every child in Stanly County knows the security of a temporary, yet caring refuge. Sign this petition to pave the way for these vital changes.
