The Issue

On the night of April 10th 2017, 500 heavily armed Police raided, gassed family members and arrested the main Opposition Political Leader, Hakainde Hichilema. On April 12th 2017, HH was formally charged with Treason. The State is accusing HH of posing a threat to national security because his motorcade did not yield to the Presidents' this past weekend.

Over the past 3 years, there has been massive decay in the once promising young Zambian democracy. Today it is marred with Police Brutality, Victimization of dissent views especially private media houses, Toture and in some cases murder of those in opposition by people directly connected to the President, with impunity.

Treason is a none bailable charge, with a maximum penalty of death in Zambia. We have seen similar situations around Africa too many times and we need your voice to stop this before Zambia becomes another statistic on the wars' record on the African continent.

We, as Zambians, are appealing to the US Government through the Office of US Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson and The US House Foreign Relations Committee Chair, Sen. Ed Royce to halt funding to the Zambian Government until this Human Rights abuse issue is resolved.
