Governor Newsom enacted CA Safer at Home Orders on March 19, 2020. Our children began their spring breaks early, some of us got laid off from work while others adjusted to working from home, and we all patiently waited for the curve to flatten. Most people took the orders seriously and remained home with their immediate family and only went out for essential tasks.
      As parents we understood the need to keep our children safe and help prevent the spread in compromised populations. We sacrificed our children’s birthday parties, family vacations, graduations, and precious time with family and friends. Now it is the middle of May and Los Angeles county has announced our Safer at Home Orders will likely last the summer.
     Our children have had plenty of events, all youth sports and activities, school, and social time with their friends cancelled due to covid-19. Lancaster only has 425 positive cases (507 in Palmdale) and 0 deaths... yet our children will most likely be forced to stay home this summer because we are in LA county. 
    I am asking for the Mayor of Lancaster to fight for our city to allow Summer Day Camp Programs to proceed this summer. According to our current orders NO child will be able to attend a summer camp and will be forced to spend their summer mostly alone. I do not think it’s fair that our city be put under the same restrictions as the rest of LA county when we have far less positive cases (about 1,000 cases across the AV, 0 deaths reported). 
      There are several places that had already planned their summer day camp programs and could quickly implement their plans if given the opportunity. Please sign this petition so we can ensure that children are able to attend summer day camp if their parent’s think its best! The children of the Antelope Valley shouldn’t be punished for living in LA county.
     Children thrive with positive social interactions and it’s important that we fight for what’s best for them! Summer Day Camp is a wonderful experience and after being safer at home for 2.5 months, kids deserve some normalcy. Sign this petition to make Summer Day Camp possible in 2020!
