Revoke the Supreme Court order to cut Aravali Hills

The Issue

I am from Rajasthan, a land that owes much of its prosperity and ecological balance to the ancient Aravali Hills. These hills are not just a geographical feature; they are vital to our very survival. Cutting them down would have catastrophic consequences for the environment and the people of Rajasthan. The recent decision by the Supreme Court to allow cutting of Aravali Hills with heights less than 100 meters threatens our community and ecosystem as 90% of these hills fall under this category.

The Aravali Hills play a crucial role in preventing the desertification of Rajasthan. They act as a natural barrier against the Thar Desert, and their presence ensures that parts of the state remain fertile and habitable. Without them, Rajasthan risks turning into a barren desert, jeopardizing the livelihood of millions who depend on agriculture and water sources sustained by this natural feature. The flora and fauna unique to this region will also face extinction, and humans along with animals will suffer from the lack of water, food, and shelter.

Statistics show that the Aravali range significantly influences the monsoon and rainfall patterns. According to studies, these hills help in the replenishment of groundwater, a critical resource in an already water-scarce region. Without these hills, we will see an increase in temperature, exacerbating the challenges of climate change impacts on agriculture and human health.

Moreover, the Aravali region is home to diverse wildlife and bird species. The environmental loss in terms of biodiversity would be irreversible. The decision to cut these hills is not just an ecological disaster but also a cultural loss. These hills are of great historical and cultural significance to Rajasthan and have been a source of inspiration for our folklore and traditions.

We need the Supreme Court to reconsider its decision. Sustainable development and conservation must go hand in hand. Alternatives such as strengthening existing laws to prevent illegal mining and promoting eco-friendly tourism can bring development while preserving our precious hills.

Join us in urging the Supreme Court to reverse its order on cutting the Aravali Hills. Sign this petition to safeguard our environment, heritage, and way of life. Rajasthan's future depends on it.
