Revoke the New E-Bike Laws in Quebec

Revoke the New E-Bike Laws in Quebec
The Issue
To: The Government of Quebec, Ministry of Transportation, and The Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ)
We, the undersigned residents of Quebec, are writing to express our strong opposition to the recently implemented laws that render e-bikes illegal within our province. These laws, we believe, are detrimental to our community for several reasons:
Environmental Impact: E-bikes are an eco-friendly mode of transportation that significantly reduce carbon emissions. By making e-bikes illegal, Quebec is taking a step backward in its commitment to environmental sustainability and the fight against climate change.
Accessibility and Affordability: E-bikes provide an affordable and accessible means of transportation for many residents, including those who are unable to drive due to financial constraints or physical disabilities. This new legislation disproportionately affects these vulnerable groups.
Traffic and Urban Mobility: E-bikes help alleviate traffic congestion and improve urban mobility. They are a practical alternative for short to medium-distance commutes, reducing the burden on public transportation and road infrastructure.
Promotion of Active Lifestyles: E-bikes encourage a more active lifestyle by combining pedal power with electric assistance. This promotes better physical health and well-being among the population.
Furthermore, it has come to our attention that the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) is not adequately equipped to register e-bikes, creating additional bureaucratic obstacles and confusion for e-bike owners. This lack of infrastructure only exacerbates the challenges faced by residents who rely on e-bikes for their daily commutes. In light of these concerns, we urge the Government of Quebec and the Ministry of Transportation to:
Revoke the new laws making e-bikes illegal and reinstate the previous regulations that allowed for their use.Ensure that the SAAQ is adequately equipped to register e-bikes and provide clear guidelines for their regulation and use.
By taking these actions, Quebec can continue to support sustainable transportation options, promote environmental stewardship, and ensure accessibility and mobility for all its residents. We, the undersigned, call upon our government to take immediate action to address this issue and revoke the laws that unjustly prohibit the use of e-bikes in our province.
