Revoke Ski Resort Leases on Public Lands in Cottonwood Canyons

Revoke Ski Resort Leases on Public Lands in Cottonwood Canyons
The Issue
As a resident of Salt Lake County, UT, I have witnessed the transformation of our beloved Cottonwood Canyons. The ski resorts operating in these canyons have installed numerous ski lifts, causing traffic congestion and preventing us from enjoying mixed recreational activities like backcountry skiing. This is not just about skiing; it's about preserving our public lands for all to enjoy.
Our public lands are being leased by the U.S. Forest Service to these ski resorts, allowing them to monopolize vast areas that should be accessible to everyone. Not all the land these resorts operate on is privately owned; much of it belongs to us, the public.
According to data from Protect Our Winters and Outdoor Industry Association, outdoor recreation generates $12 billion in consumer spending annually in Utah alone (source: Economic Contributions of Outdoor Recreation). Yet this economic benefit is threatened when access to public lands is restricted.
We need your support now more than ever. By signing this petition, you are standing up for fair use of our shared natural resources and advocating for a balanced approach that allows everyone - not just skiers - access to our beautiful mountains.
It's time we reclaim Cottonwood Canyons by revoking their lease on our public lands. Sign this petition today!
