Revoke Sheriff Adam King’s Badge and Remove Him from Office

The Issue

We, the undersigned citizens of Johnson County and the State of Texas, demand the immediate suspension and removal of Sheriff Adam King from office under the authority of the Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 87.

The Law

Texas Local Government Code Chapter 87 provides that a district judge may remove a county officer from office for incompetency, official misconduct, or intoxication.

  • Section 87.011 allows removal for official misconduct.

  • Section 87.012 defines official misconduct as intentional, unlawful behavior relating to official duties, including corrupt refusal or neglect of duty.

  • Section 87.013 provides that removal proceedings may begin with a written petition filed with the district court.

  • Section 87.031 states that once such a petition is filed, a district judge may suspend the officer until trial on the removal.

This law exists to protect the people when those in power abuse their office.

The Facts

  • In August 2025, Sheriff Adam King was indicted following a Texas Rangers investigation into complaints from county employees. He was arrested and charged with abuse of office through sexual harassment and with two felony counts of retaliation against a witness.

  • Media reports detail allegations that he made repeated unwelcome sexual remarks to female employees about their clothing, weight, and physical appearance, and even demanded that one employee disrobe before he would sign paperwork.

  • Witnesses reported that he retaliated against staff who cooperated with investigators by altering their work schedules and punishing them.

On October 1, 2025, Sheriff King was indicted again, this time for aggravated perjury, a third degree felony. Court documents show that while under oath before a grand jury, King denied changing the schedule of an accuser, but multiple witnesses including the acting sheriff, a judge, and chief deputies testified that he did.
King has pled not guilty, but the charges remain active and unresolved.

Why Removal is Necessary

  1. Public trust in law enforcement depends on integrity. A sheriff indicted for sexual harassment, retaliation, and perjury cannot lead with credibility.

  2. Allowing King to remain in power undermines the rule of law and the safeguards provided in Chapter 87.

  3. County employees and citizens must be protected from further retaliation, intimidation, or abuse of authority.

  4. Johnson County deserves leadership that is above reproach.

Our Demand

We, the citizens of Johnson County, respectfully petition the district courts to:

  • Suspend Sheriff Adam King from office immediately under Texas Local Government Code Section 87.031

  • Proceed with removal proceedings as provided under Chapter 87

  • Ensure that no county officer under felony indictment for official misconduct is permitted to exercise the powers of the office

Our county cannot afford to have its highest law enforcement officer remain in power under these circumstances. No person is above the law, especially not the sheriff.

We demand accountability. We demand the revocation of Sheriff Adam King’s badge and authority.
