Revoke Sean 'Diddy' Combs, Keys to New York City

Revoke Sean 'Diddy' Combs, Keys to New York City
The Issue
Dear Mayor Adams and Members of the City Council,
We, respectfully, request the revocation of the Key to the City awarded to Sean "Diddy" Combs on September 15, 2023. While we acknowledge Mr. Combs' contributions to music, business, and philanthropy, we believe that the decision to honor him with the Key to the City warrants reconsideration based on the following concerns:
Inadequate Representation of New York City and American Values: The Key to the City is a symbol of civic recognition and gratitude, traditionally awarded to individuals whose service to the public and the common good rises to the highest level of achievement. While Mr. Combs has achieved significant success, there are concerns that his actions and public persona do not fully align with the values of inclusivity, respect, and community service that our city and nation strive to promote.
Questionable Ethical Standards: Over the years, Mr. Combs has faced various allegations and legal issues, including accusations of violence and misconduct. These issues raise serious questions about his suitability as a role model, especially for our youth.
Support for Women's Rights and Opposition to Domestic Violence: As a society, we must prioritize the rights and protection of women. Given the history of allegations against Mr. Combs related to domestic violence, awarding him the Key to the City sends a conflicting message about our commitment to women's rights and the serious stance we take against domestic violence. Most recently, a leaked video shows Mr. Combs assaulting Cassandra "Cassie" Ventura, further intensifying public outcry and underscoring the urgent need to reassess this honor.
Potential Misalignment with Civic Honor Criteria: The awarding of the Key to the City should reflect an individual’s consistent and positive impact on the community. Although Mr. Combs has made notable philanthropic contributions, the selection process should involve a comprehensive evaluation of both professional achievements and personal conduct.
Public Sentiment and Civic Responsibility: The decision to award the Key to the City to Mr. Combs has sparked significant public debate. Many Americans feel that this honor should be reserved for individuals whose lives and careers embody the spirit of New York City and the nation in a manner that is unequivocally positive and inspiring.
We urge the city administration to consider these points and reevaluate the decision to award Sean "Diddy" Combs the Key to the City. We believe that this honor should be a true reflection of our city's and nation's values and ideals, and should be bestowed upon those who consistently demonstrate exemplary character and service.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. We hope that you will take our concerns into account and act in the best interests of the citizens of New York City and World.
Thanks for signing the petition. What's next? Share it, and also contact the Mayor's office. It will only take a few minutes of your time. Thanks and have a blessed day.
