The issue

We, the undersigned, call on the Honours Council and the Governor-General of Australia to revoke the Companion of the Order of Australia (AC) awarded to former Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

This award is meant to recognise “eminent service to the nation.” We believe Mr Morrison’s leadership — particularly during the 2019–20 Black Summer bushfires, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Robodebt scandal — was marked by negligence, secrecy, and severe harm to the Australian public.

🔹 Robodebt was declared unlawful and devastating in its human impact. It harmed hundreds of thousands and contributed to at least 2,000 deaths, with a Royal Commission condemning it as “cruel and unfair.”

🔹 During the bushfire crisis, Mr Morrison took a secret overseas holiday and dismissed public distress, leaving the country leaderless in a time of national emergency.

🔹 He appointed himself to five secret ministries, bypassing parliamentary norms and keeping the public — and even his own Cabinet — in the dark.

🔹 His government's vaccine rollout was delayed and poorly coordinated, leaving vulnerable Australians at risk and deepening public frustration.

These actions do not reflect integrity, transparency, or service to the Australian people. Instead, they have eroded public trust and damaged lives.

We believe this honour sets a dangerous precedent if left unchallenged. It undermines the value of the award and insults those who were directly affected.

✳️ We respectfully demand that the Council for the Order of Australia initiate a review and that the Governor-General revoke the Companion of the Order of Australia granted to Mr. Scott Morrison.
