The Issue

I am a resident of Minnesota, and like many others, I compost my organic waste in my own backyard so since I choose not to use a bin I am still charged for it because under the current law - Minnesota Law 115A.93 Subdivision 3(c) -A licensing authority shall prohibit mixed municipal solid waste collectors from imposing a greater charge on residents who recycle than on residents who do not recycle.

This means that even though we are doing our part to reduce waste and protect the environment by composting at home, we are still being penalized financially.

Yet under this existing law, there is no incentive for us to continue these environmentally friendly practices as it costs us more money. The fear is that soon they will make us pay for yard waste bins even if we don't use them.

We call upon our local representatives and lawmakers to revoke this unfair provision from Minnesota Law 115A.93 Subdivision 3(c). Let's encourage responsible recycling habits rather than punishing them with additional charges! Please sign this petition today!
