Revoke California's AB 1955 Law Allowing Schools to Withhold Gender Information from Parents

Revoke California's AB 1955 Law Allowing Schools to Withhold Gender Information from Parents
The Issue
I am a father deeply involved in the life of my child. As a parent in San Jose, CA, I believe in the primacy of parental rights and the necessity of openness in crucial matters concerning our children. The recent enactment of AB 1955 in California, which allows schools to hide crucial gender-related information from parents, is a breach of this trust and transparency.
The passage of this law creates a barrier between parents and children, not allowing guardians to be fully present, engaged, and supportive in their child's life journey. This lack of transparency withholds vital information that could impact the health, wellbeing, and understanding between a parent and child. Trust, support, and open communication are fundamental to a strong parent-child relationship, which this law undermines, leaving parents in the dark regarding their child's needs.
Back in 2018, a study published in the Journal of Adolescent Health showed that adolescents with supportive parents had significantly less depressive symptoms and a lower risk of suicidal ideation. This emphasizes the critical role parents play in fostering their child's psychological well-being. Inhibiting critical communication between parents and their children deprives them of this key support system.
It's time to revoke AB 1955. As a community and as parents, we urge lawmakers to consider the negative impact of this law on families. We implore our local representatives to stand with us for the sake of our children, to promote transparency, support, and open communication. Sign this petition to join our fight against AB 1955.
