The Issue

This case involves the tragic and preventable death of Ariya Paige, an innocent child whose life was cut short due to severe negligence. The release of Rhonda Jewell on a $100,000 bond-even with a curfew and electronic tracking device- is unacceptable and a failure of justice.

We strongly believe that allowing a convicted individual, found guilty of such serious crimes, to remain free, and still legally allowed to have children alone in her care as long as they are above the age of six, undermines public safety, the legal system, and the rights of the victim and her family.

Reasons to Revoke the Bond

  1. Public Safety Concerns
    • The nature of the crime demonstrates extreme negligence and reckless disregard for human life, particularly that of a defenseless child.
    • Even with a curfew and tracking device, electronic monitoring does not guarantee public safety- it merely provides location tracking.
  2. Risk of Flight & Avoidance of Justice
    • Facing a 17 -year sentence, Rhonda Jewell has every incentive to flee or violate conditions of her release.
    • Defendants convicted of crimes this severe should not be given the opportunity to await sentencing outside of custody.
  3. Justice of Ariya Paige & Her Family
    • The family of Ariya Paige has suffered an unimaginable loss and should not have to endure the additional trauma of seeing the convicted individual remain free.
    • The bond decision sends the wrong message-that someone convicted of child homicide can avoid immediate accountability.
  4. Community Outrage & Erosion of Trust in the Legal System
    • The residents of Baker County and surrounding areas are deeply disturbed and angered by this decision, which undermines trust in the judicial system's ability to protect its citizens.
    • If the system allows a convicted individual to avoid immediate incarceration, how can the community feel secure in future legal rulings?

Call to Action

For these reasons, we formally request that the State's Attorney Office file a motion to revoke the bond of Rhonda Jewell, and we urge this Honorable Court to reconsider its ruling in the interest of justice and public safety.

We, the undersigned, stand united in Demanding that Rhonda Jewell be immediately returned to custody to ensure that justice for Ariya Paige is fully served.
