Revive the WNBA Cleveland Rockers!!!

The Issue

I am a resident of Cleveland, OH, deeply invested in both feminism and the prosperity of our city. The dissolution of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) team, the Cleveland Rockers, has left a void that needs to be filled. This is not just about sports; it's about gender equality and economic stimulation.

The Rockers were one of the original eight teams in the WNBA when it was founded in 1996. They were an integral part of our community until they ceased operations in 2003 due to financial struggles. Their absence has not only deprived us fans from enjoying women’s professional basketball but also denied aspiring female athletes local role models.

Reinstating this team would be a powerful statement for gender equality. As per data from Statista, as of 2020 only around 40% of all athletes are women despite them making up more than half of all sports participants globally. Reintroducing a professional women’s basketball team can help close this gap locally.

Additionally, bringing back the Rockers could stimulate our local economy by creating jobs and attracting tourism revenue - something we need now more than ever during these challenging times.

The revenue that will be brought in through more sports betting opportunities and the energy more basketball will bring to this city will be game changing.

Caitlin Clark along with so many other are paving the way right now for a major expansion of the WNBA, let’s take advantage of this!

Let's bring back our beloved Cleveland Rockers! Cleveland has a lot of love to give to this franchise and I believe in investing in our city's future through sport. Please sign this petition if you agree.
