Revive Syd, Olly, and Millie for Brisbane 2032 Olympics

The issue

As a proud Aussie, I have a deep affection for Sydney 2000 Olympics mascots; Syd, Millie, and Olly. (a platypus (Syd), a kookaburra (Olly), and an echidna (Millie). These mascots are relatable, unique, beautiful and evoke the resounding Aussie spirit. On the other hand, recent iterations of mascots seem abstract and disembodied of character and charm.

More than just a matter of sentiment, a study by Keio University found that mascots who exhibit physical attributes related to the host culture lead to more local involvement and stronger international branding. With such evidence, the reintroduction of these Aussie mascots for the Brisbane 2032 Olympics becomes not just a matter of tradition, but of strategic communication.

I also propose an addition of a new mascot that adds to the vibrant lineage of our previous mascots and amplifies our rich Australian fauna. In a report by WWF, Australia is home to more than 1 million diverse species, many of which you can't find anywhere else in the world. Our mascots should speak volumes about our unique, rich biodiversity and help cultivate a deeper sense of respect and interest among international audience for Australian wildlife.

Together, let's usher in the Brisbane 2032 Olympics with mascots that serve as ambassadors of Australia's distinctive character and rich biodiversity. Sign this petition to bring back Syd, Olly, and Millie and welcome a new member to their family!
