❗ Before You Dismiss This — Understand the Full Picture 🧠
This movement is unlike those that came before it.
In our Discord server, you’ll find a dedicated channel that breaks down exactly why we believe a revival is not only feasible but realistic and profitable. It’s an in-depth, point-by-point exploration from a AAA games studio bizdev perspective, something no other revival effort has ever bothered considering. The petition is just one of the moving parts, the movement is far greater than the petition alone.

💌 Our Love Letter
Over a decade has passed since Free Realms was sunset on March 31, 2014 — yet its community has never truly let go. We’re launching this petition to respectfully ask Daybreak Games to officially revive Free Realms for PC: not as a remake, reboot or private fan project, but as a faithful re-release of the original game.
We believe there’s a meaningful opportunity here. Both creatively and financially.
――――――――――――――――――――――――
✨ A Game Ahead of Its Time
Free Realms wasn’t just another MMO. It was a genre-defying social sandbox that offered players a safe, vibrant world to explore, create, and connect — through combat, music, mini-games, housing, roleplay, and live events.
It stood out with:
- Unparalleled class-swapping freedom
- Deep character customization
- A cozy, inclusive aesthetic
- An innovative mix of gameplay elements
- An early vision of the “metaverse” that predates the term
In many ways, Free Realms arrived too early. Its design aligns perfectly with today’s growing demand for cozy multiplayer games, live-service models, creator-driven content and nostalgic online spaces.
――――――――――――――――――――――――
💡 Why Now?
The original audience has grown up — and now they can pay. Many of us who were kids in 2014 are now adults with disposable income, eager to support a game we truly loved.
The nostalgia is real:
- The r/freerealms subreddit is still alive after 11 years.
- YouTube retrospectives and project updates continue to rack up thousands of views.
- Entire communities are dedicated to preserving the game’s memory.
The groundwork already exists. With the source assets, lore, minigames, and original systems already developed, reviving Free Realms would cost a fraction of building a new game from scratch.
Today’s monetization models suit it better. In-game purchases, optional passes and seasonal updates — all of which felt weird and foreign a decade ago — are now the norm across the entire industry.
And while we’re focused on PC, a future mobile port offers huge upside. It would introduce Free Realms to a new wave of casual and global players, something that wasn’t feasible in 2014.
――――――――――――――――――――――――
🔁 This Has Worked Before
Other beloved MMOs have come back to life — and thrived:
- Old School RuneScape
- Toontown Rewritten
- City of Heroes Homecoming
- Club Penguin fan servers
All of them show what’s possible when passion meets platform.
The Free Realms community has stayed loyal, patient and hopeful. We’ve been sharing old memories for over a decade. More recently, we have started to host bare-bones fan servers, managing to relive part of our childhood. Many of us would give anything to have this world back.
This isn’t just a nostalgia-fueled fleeting desire: it’s a long-standing passion, and a viable business opportunity.
――――――――――――――――――――――――
🧭 Our Vision
This movement is built on transparency and coordination. We’ve created a centralized home on Discord to:
- Build a lasting, healthy petition campaign
- Keep the community organized, collaborative and updated
- Explore more in-depth why we think a revival is both feasible and profitable
- Gather resources, spread awareness, and support outreach efforts
Our first milestone is 5,000 signatures — but we won’t stop there. We want to demonstrate demand that rivals or surpasses other cozy MMO launches. Together, we can show Daybreak that this game still has life — and a future. The more people that sign, the clearer our case becomes.
――――――――――――――――――――――――
🤲 Our Request to Daybreak
We’re not asking for a risky rebuild. We’re asking for a revival that respects the original.
If the full revival isn’t viable internally, we’d welcome alternative paths, such as
- Licensing the Free Realms IP to a new development team
- Distributing legacy server code for supervised fan development
- Exploring hybrid options that allow fan maintenance under Daybreak's oversight
In our Discord server, you can find a larger indepth
All we’re asking is for Daybreak to see the opportunity —> and meet us halfway.
