Revive Alkimos Beach & Alkimos Vista: Let’s Bring Life Back to Our Parks and Verges
The issue
Dear City of Wanneroo and Stockland Development Team,
We, the residents of Alkimos Beach & Alkimos Vista, are writing to express our growing concern regarding the deteriorating condition of the verges and smaller parks throughout our estate. What was once envisioned as a vibrant, coastal community now resembles a dry bushland, with mulch and coastal weeds dominating the landscape instead of the lush greenery we were promised.
Many of us chose Alkimos Beach for its reputation as a sustainable, family-friendly estate. However, the current landscaping choices particularly the widespread use of mulch and low-maintenance coastal plants appear to prioritise cost-saving over community wellbeing. While we appreciate the commitment to a 6-star energy rating, this should not come at the expense of liveability and visual appeal.
Residents have observed:
- Dead trees and plants due to disconnected reticulation systems.
- Verges and smaller parks that lack grass, shade, and usable space.
- A noticeable decline in landscaping quality compared to neighbouring estates like Eden Beach.
- A lack of toddler-friendly play areas and community gathering spaces.
- Shortage of public bins, poo bags, and signage encouraging residents to clean up after their pets across the estate.
These issues are not just aesthetic, they affect our lifestyle, community pride, and potentially even property values. Poor landscaping sends a message of neglect and undermines the long-term vision for Alkimos Beach & Alkimos Vista.
We respectfully request that the City of Wanneroo and Stockland:
- Reassess the landscaping strategy for Alkimos Beach.
- Reconnect reticulation systems to support healthy vegetation.
- Introduce a balanced mix of grass, native plants, mulch, and play areas in all parks.
- Engage with residents during the planning and development of public spaces.
- Introduce additional public bins, poo bags, and signage encouraging residents to clean up after their pets across the estate.
There is still time to make meaningful improvements, especially in areas currently under development. We urge you to work together and with the community to restore the beauty and functionality of our shared spaces.
Sincerely,
Concerned Residents of Alkimos Beach & Alkimos Vista
