The Issue

We, the undersigned members of the Lakehead University community in Thunder Bay, join together to address a critical issue that directly impacts the safety, health, and well-being of our fellow students. The recent decline in the quality of Thunder Bay's bus services has left many relying on public transportation in distress, particularly during extreme weather conditions.

Background:
Students investing $225 in a bus pass at the beginning of each academic year rightfully expect reliable and timely transportation. However, the reduction in service frequency, extended waiting times, and inadequate shelter facilities have turned this essential service into a significant source of inconvenience, discomfort, and even health risks.

The Situation:
Bus routes, once characterized by a reasonable 15-20 minute wait time, now subject students to an excruciating 30-40 minutes in the harsh cold weather of Thunder Bay. Instances of bus cancellations without proper communication have become distressingly common, leaving students stranded and exposed to extreme temperatures.

The Call to Action:
We urgently call upon the university administration, local authorities, and relevant stakeholders to prioritize the following changes:

  • Increased Bus Frequencies: Especially during peak hours and extreme weather conditions, to reduce waiting times and enhance reliability.
  • Shelter at All Bus Stops: Ensure that every bus stop is equipped with adequate shelters to protect students from extreme weather.
  • Improved Communication: Implement a robust system for timely and accurate communication regarding bus schedules, delays, and cancellations.

Our Commitment:
As concerned members of the university community, we pledge to stand united and advocate for these essential changes. By signing this petition, we voice our collective concern and demand immediate action to ensure the safety, well-being, and overall satisfaction of the students who rely on Thunder Bay's public transportation system.

Let Your Voice Be Heard:
Join us in this crucial campaign for change. Sign and share this petition to raise awareness, compel action, and create a safer and more dependable public transportation system for all Thunder Bay students. We request that Confederation College students also sign this petition if they use the bus services and are facing similar challenges.

Together, we can make a difference.
