Hello fellow petition supporters,

As summer starts to wind down and life turns away from summer activities, please remember out efforts to protect to the Humber River so we can enjoy it even more next summer.

Toronto Humber Yacht Club's lease on the public property they occupy is almost officially coming to an end. They received their letter of non-renewal on June 30, which clearly states the city is not renewing their lease and instructs the club to begin their efforts to remove themselves from the property.

Although the club has received the letter the lease does not officially come to an end until the staff recommendations are presented to the General Governance Committee for review and then sent to council to be approved. I'm hopeful this process will be completed by October at the latest. With this being said, the club is intent on hiring lawyers to try to force the city to reverse this decision. Although I'm assured the city is under no obligation to renew the lease, the city has proven to be quite weak in their efforts to protect the Humber River when faced with THYC lawyers in the past.

So as we turn the page on another summer and our attention moves to autumn/winter, please help us keep this issue front and center with city staff and city politicians to ensure they don't back down from this course of action.

If once again you can forward our petition asking your friends and family to sign it, it would be much appreciated.

But even more important would be to email the stakeholders at the city (email addresses above) and let them know why it is important to you to see an end to THYC's environmental devastation of the public lands they occupy as well as their wanton disregard for other river users' safety when they are speeding up and down the river on their Jet Skis.

Once again thank you for your time and support and hopefully in the very near future I can finally announce our efforts have been successful!
