Hello Fellow Petition Supporters,
It seems our efforts asking the City of Toronto to stand firm on their decision to end Toronto Humber Yacht Club's lease on the public land they currently occupy are starting to get noticed.
The Star published an article this past weekend and BlogTO recently mentioned our efforts. Both of these articles have definitely increased the number of supporters our petition is gathering (approaching 2,100 as of this morning) which is great.
It has also brought new members to our Toronto Humber Paddle Center FB group. This is also good because it lets the powers that be at the city know a paddle center would be a viable option for the property if the city decides not to re-naturalize the area.
I do think the fact our petition continues to gather support is helpful to our efforts, so please keep on sharing it with friends and loved ones.
I do however think emailing the stakeholders at the city (email addresses listed above) might have more impact. This is especially true if:
1/ You have and personal experiences dealing with THYC's leadership or club members while visiting Kingsmill Park or on the Humber River.
2/ You are a paddler (kayak, canoe, paddle board) who might be interested in joining a paddle center on the Humber and wish to share why this would be a benefit to you.
It's clear from the Stars article the club intends to hire lawyers to fight the city's decision to end their lease. In the past, the city has been very susceptible to legal intimidation by the club which is what has led to the club having such a negative impact on the ecosystem of the Humber River as well as the community as a whole. It's my hope if stakeholders continue to receive emails supporting their decision to end THYC's lease, it will strengthen their resolve to fight for what is right.
Once again, thank you for your support and continued efforts to protect the Humber River!
Be well,
Jason Sills
