The Issue

Our town mall, once a bustling center full of life and community engagement, now stands as an unsightly reminder of its former glory. Its abandonment has turned this once-vibrant place into a disheartening eyesore. It's not just an aesthetic issue, but a waste of space that could be transformed to better serve our town. As a resident of Enid who remembers the mall's heyday, this personal for me and many others who live here.

Across the country, dead malls are being reimagined. A study by Ellen Dunham-Jones, a director at Georgia Tech School of Architecture, states that 211 enclosed malls have been redeveloped in the United States (source: The Washington Post). These spaces have been reborn as walkable mixed-use cities, satellite community college campuses, churches, public libraries, and beyond. They have found new life and purpose.

We urge our city officials to take inspiration and act. Either demolish this defunct structure and replace it with new and useful facilities, like an outdoor outlet or a movie theater, or undertake the task of renovation to bring stores back to life. Let's reshape this space into something our community can be proud of. Let's remove this stain on Enid and replace it with a symbol of city's renaissance.

Be part of igniting change in our town. Sign this petition today. Let's reclaim our space! Let's rebuild Enid!
