Revitalize Newport and surrounding areas
The Issue
I come from a long line of Woods, swaggerty's ,and Gosnell's who have called Newport, Tennessee, and neighboring areas like Bybee and Cosby home for generations. This is not just any place—it's my hometown, where my heart and history lie. But now, I see it fading, like a painting losing its color. Our once vibrant community is at risk of becoming a ghost town, and we cannot stand idly by and let that happen.
Our towns are hemorrhaging youth. Young adults and teenagers, the future of our community, have nothing here to occupy their time or invest their energy. They are forced to seek entertainment and opportunities in other municipalities, pouring their time and money into economies that are not ours. This trend weakens our local economy and our sense of community. We need change—an infusion of life and opportunity that keeps our youth here, investing in their futures and the future of Newport and its sister towns.
Imagine a revitalized Newport where young people feel seen and supported; a place where they choose to spend their time and efforts. Recreational centers, educational drop-ins, and community-driven events could offer the engagement they desperately need.
Homeless shelters:
The revenue generated could, in turn, be funneled into essential services like homeless shelters. These shelters would provide safety, warmth, and dignity for men and women who currently seek shelter in churches and other temporary housing solutions. We envision facilities up to code, supplying heat or cool air as necessary, with amenities like showers and beds that turn harsh winters from a foe to a friend.
Investing in our youth and community infrastructure is the key to preventing our towns from fading into oblivion. This petition calls for local government and influential community members to commit to building recreational facilities and a permanent homeless shelter. Newport, Tennessee, and its neighboring areas deserve more than survival; they deserve to thrive.
Sign this petition if you believe in a brighter, more vibrant Newport, where generations can continue to grow and flourish in their rightful home. Let's bring about real change, preserving our heritage while fostering a prosperous future for all residents.
