Revitalise the Basin View BMX Track - turn the dumps into jumps!

The issue

The BMX track at Malcolm Moore Reserve in Basin View, NSW, Australia, is in need of a significant upgrade. This facility once played a crucial role in our community, providing a safe and dedicated space for residents of all ages to engage in physical activity and enjoy the sport of BMX riding. However, its current state poses safety risks and severely limits its usability.

Led by the Youth Voice Project, supported by Firefly Bay and Basin, and driven by passionate BMX riders, Year 9 students Caitlyn, Phoebe, and Jasmine from Vincentia High School have embarked on an ambitious mission. They aim to rally support from the Shoalhaven Council to prioritize the revitalization of the BMX track, transforming the reserve into the vibrant hub for outdoor recreation and community engagement that it once was.

BMX racing has been growing steadily in popularity across Australia over recent years. According to Cycling Australia, there are over 20,000 registered BMX riders nationwide (source: Cycling Australia). Yet despite this growth, our local track has been neglected.

The lack of maintenance of the jumps at the BMX track prevents our community from participating in this exciting sport. It sends a disheartening message about the value placed on recreational facilities within Basin View and the wider Bay and Basin area.

We urge the council to prioritize revitalizing the BMX track at Malcolm Moore Reserve. It's time to invest in facilities that promote health and well-being within our community. Please sign this petition to show your support for action.
