Revitalise and Refurbish the Neglected Koondoola Plaza

The issue

I am a concerned resident of Koondoola who, like many others, find the dilapidated state of our local Koondoola Plaza not merely an eyesore, but a detriment to our community. The plaza, despite being privately owned, has been neglected for over 40 years, devaluing the area and turning local residents away. The time for change is now.

The City of Wanneroo Council, the Mayor, and the Member for Mirrabooka need to reinstate their efforts and channel funding towards the revitalisation of our plaza. It can be transformed into a functional space, featuring a diverse range of shops that cater to our community's needs.

We cannot disregard the correlation between well-maintained public spaces and lower crime rates. Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) supports this standpoint as their studies indicate that revamping neglected spaces can mitigate criminal activity (CPTED, 2021). Additionally, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation determined that public perceptions of an area dramatically improve with the rejuvenation of local amenities (JRF, 2010). This is of significant monetary value, as it translates to increased local investment.

We implore the City of Wanneroo council, the Mayor, and relevant stakeholders to acknowledge and act upon our appeal for a better, safer, and more proud community by refurbishing the Koondoola Plaza. Please, sign this petition to show your support for this vital initiative.
