The Issue

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) recently approved two revised road improvements for the intersections of Mudd Tavern Road (Route 606) and Patriot Highway (Route 1) in Spotsylvania, VA. Although these improvements were intended to enhance safety with the installation of concrete barriers, they unintentionally hinder access to Poco Loco Business, adversely affecting our customers and our operations.

These changes have created a significant inconvenience for Poco Loco patrons by forcing them to either drive half a mile out of their way to exit onto Mudd Tavern Road or navigate a complicated and dangerous route requiring the crossing of four lanes of Route 1 North traffic. Not only does this diminish ease of access to our business, but it also places our customers in risky situations every time they attempt to exit.

Poco Loco is more than just a business establishment; it's a vibrant part of the community, offering a convenient and friendly locale for the people of Spotsylvania. Our patrons deserve safe and direct access to our services without unnecessary detours or dangerous crossings.

This situation not only discourages patrons due to the inconvenience but also jeopardizes their safety, leading to a decline in business—posing a direct threat to our survival.

We urge VDOT and local authorities to reconsider the current layout and to implement safer, more accessible ingress and egress routes to and from Poco Loco Business. Possible solutions include adjusting traffic signal patterns, creating additional entry/exit points, or reconfiguring the existing road setup to ensure the safety and satisfaction of our valued customers.

By signing this petition, you are advocating for a practical and equitable solution that respects the needs of local businesses and ensures the safety of community members patronizing Poco Loco. Please join us in reminding VDOT that public safety and local business interests should go hand-in-hand.
