Revise Waterbury Public Schools Dress code

Revise Waterbury Public Schools Dress code
Why this petition matters
Students and Families all over the Waterbury District have expressed their feeling about dress code for many years and can tell you having a dress code does more harm than good. They believe having a dress code in the Waterbury public school system is useless and not necessary. All we ask is to Revise the dress code policy to be more lenient on students to feel comfortable in a school setting while also expressing their freedom. The Board of eduction has made multiple claims stating why dress code is beneficial but in reality having a dress code does more harm than good. Students, Families, and staff of the Waterbury School District don’t agree on punishing students on what they wear. We are in school to Learn for our future but if we want to feel comfortable in our bodies and wear a t shirt instead of a certain colored polo, we students would get punished by getting detention, taking away valuable class time. Teachers don't have time to go back and fourth with students about what they’re wearing.
Restricting what Students of the WPS system wears takes away our freedom of expression, takes away the diversity of students, makes students uncomfortable, is hard to even enforce, and does not help students learn better.
I am creating this petition to help raise the concerns of students and families in the city of Waterbury to revise and get ride of the strict dress code that is in place! Please sign and help fight against the Board of education to revise the dress code and get rid of it.
To make a change and get ride of dress code we need to…
- Speak up for the Students who feel like they don’t have a voice
- Attend Board of education meetings and demand a change.
- Make petitions and address the Superintendent
- Create a revised Dress Code
