Revise the Thames View masterplan for family-friendly housing
The Issue
We the undersigned petition the Council to revise the Thames View Masterplan to ensure that family housing is delivered in a form appropriate for raising children and sustaining long-term communities.
In particular, we call on the Council to:
- substantially reduce the reliance on high-rise tower blocks for family-sized accommodation;
prioritise low-rise and medium-rise homes with direct access to safe outdoor space; - recognise the social, developmental and wellbeing concerns associated with raising families in tall residential blocks;
- redesign the Masterplan to create a more humane, family-friendly and sustainable neighbourhood; and
- ensure that none of the proposed residential blocks are delivered with leasehold tenure, with homes instead provided on a fairer tenure basis that gives residents greater security, control and protection from escalating service charges.
We further call upon the Council to undertake fresh public consultation on these revisions before any further phases of the Masterplan proceed.
