I, Cheong Kah Pin, a single dad grow vegetables on my friend’s land and earn a living by selling my harvests. My son Cheong Chun Yin was sentenced to death by the Singapore High Court in 2010.

In 2015, the high court re-sentenced him to life in prison following amendments to the Misuse of Drugs Act, which came into effect on Jan 1, 2013.

Over the years, I spend an hour riding my motorcycle across the Causeway from Johor Bahru into Singapore every Wednesday just to visit Chun Yin for about 15 minutes.

He has the chance to study and do some work while serving time. He has learned his lesson and wants to turn over a new leaf.

I really hope to see my son freed some day and have him by my side while I live out the remaining years of my life.

We sincerely appeal to the Singapore government to reduce my son’s prison sentence and allow him to be released for good behavior.
