Revise the Criteria Guidelines for XL Bullies to Protect Large Breed Dogs

The Issue

As a member of Large Breed Dog Rescue, I am personally witnessing an alarming increase in requests to take in dogs that fall under the current definition of XL bullies. This broad classification is causing undue stress and confusion among dog owners, particularly those who own mastiff type dogs.

The current criteria guidelines for XL bullies are so expansive that almost any large breed can be caught by the definition. This has led to an influx of dogs being surrendered or abandoned due to fear and misunderstanding about what owning an 'XL bully' entails.

It's important to note that not all large breeds are inherently aggressive or dangerous. In fact, according to a study conducted by the American Temperament Test Society (ATTS), Mastiffs scored an 82.4% pass rate on temperament tests - higher than many smaller breeds.

The government needs to revise these criteria guidelines, narrowing them down so they accurately represent true 'XL bullies'. By doing so, we can prevent unnecessary surrenders and abandonments while ensuring public safety is maintained.

We urge you to stand with us in advocating for fairer treatment of our beloved canine companions and their responsible owners. Please sign this petition today!
