The Issue

Hi, my name is Steve. I am a survivor of an aneurysm and two additional strokes, living with the aftermath of these life-changing events. However, my struggle doesn't just end there. The Canadian Dental Care Plan in Ontario is also broken. It states that if you have private insurance, there's no need to apply for the plan. Unfortunately, this does not reflect the reality for many, including myself, where my private insurance through long-term disability falls short, not covering the essential dental care that I need.

I urgently need dentures, but the cost of $3,000 is an enormous burden for me. I earn $2,000 a month, and half of that goes right to my rent, while the rest is spent on medication, leaving me with hardly any money for groceries. My frequent visits to the food bank are a testament to this struggle.

This situation is unsustainable. No person with a disability should have to live in constant financial strain because the government's provisions are inadequate. We need to push our representatives to address these gaps in the Canadian Dental Care Plan, especially in cases like mine where private insurance coverage is insufficient.

I propose that the Canadian Dental Care Plan should offer a supplemental provision for people whose private insurance does not cover specific critical dental needs. This would ensure that individuals like me, who are already battling significant health issues, do not have to confront further hardship and financial distress.

By revising the plan to include supplemental coverage for vital services such as dentures, we can relieve significant financial stress for countless Canadians. This would represent a step forward in valuing and supporting all individuals, especially those living with disabilities.

Please join me in calling on the Canadian government to take immediate action to revise the Dental Care Plan. Let's ensure that essential dental care is accessible for everyone in need. Your support can make a difference. Sign this petition today to demand change that could improve lives immensely.
