Revise The Absence Policy for Exemptions
Revise The Absence Policy for Exemptions
The Issue
The current absence policy at Glenda Dawson High School states that after five absences—excused, unexcused, or medical—a student’s exemptions are taken away.
The goal of the absence policy is to decrease the occurrence of truancy, which can still be accomplished if the district removed the mention of excused and medical absences from the policy.
This policy encouraged students to come to school sick in an attempt to keep their exemptions. These sick students are unnecessarily spreading viruses throughout school because they are contagious.
With the flu and covid going around the school, the current absence policy is causing an epidemic of absences and viruses.
The revised absence policy for exemptions should state exemptions will be revoked after a student obtains five unexcused absences.
This issue will be brought up at the next PISD board meeting on November 8, 2022.

Also, please refrain from rude and inappropriate comments against the district and its policies to not invalidate this petition.
