Revise Sterling Heights trash pickup policy

The Issue

The city of Sterling Heights has implemented a garbage pickup policy that restricts residents to a mere two trash bins. This limitation creates a significant inconvenience, forcing residents to either hunt for public dumpsters to dispose of excess trash or retain trash for weeks on end until all waste can be disposed of within the imposed limits. For families and individuals residing in Sterling Heights, this policy creates a cycle of frustration, especially during times when large boxes, bulk items, or seasonal cleanouts generate more trash than the bins can accommodate.

Relying on just two bins poses not only a logistical challenge but also health risks. Accumulated trash becomes a breeding ground for bugs and rodents, threatening the well-being of our community. After all, our tax dollars should ensure a comprehensive waste management service that addresses real-life scenarios while promoting sanitary living conditions.

Therefore, it is imperative to revise the current trash pickup policy to accommodate bulk items and trash that may not fit within the designated bins. Implementing a system that allows periodic collection of oversized trash and bulk items will significantly benefit Sterling Heights residents and improve community cleanliness and safety.

We propose that the city formulates a plan that permits the occasional waste disposal of larger items. This adjustment can be structured as an additional service on designated days or implemented as a scheduled monthly or bi-monthly bulk pickup day. By adopting this approach, we can avoid the detrimental effects of hoarding trash in our homes and reduce sanitation-related risks.

Sign this petition to urge the Sterling Heights City Council to take action in revising the garbage pickup policy, ensuring a healthier, cleaner, and more accommodating service for all residents.
