Revise RCI guidelines for experienced professionals
The Issue
I am a working psychologist with five years of experience in a clinical setup, holding an M.A. in Clinical Psychology. My career journey, however, is obstructed by the lack of a Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) license. Despite being well-skilled, equipped, and experienced, the current guidelines make it challenging for professionals like me to continue progressing in our careers.
The existing RCI guidelines require specific licenses to practice as a clinical psychologist, yet there is no direct pathway for experienced and skilled professionals to obtain these licenses based solely on their work and expertise. This situation stalls the careers of numerous competent psychologists who are otherwise entitled to practice, serve, and provide their valuable contribution to the society, especially in times where mental health assistance is crucial to community well-being.
My career and many others are held in abeyance due to this regulatory barrier. It's a situation that demands immediate attention and a practical solution. I propose that RCI should introduce a qualification test. Passing this test would allow professionals like myself, who have robust experience and education, to gain the necessary licensure to continue our vital work.
This adjustment not only acknowledges the competence and contribution of existing practitioners but also enhances accessibility to mental health services across India. More mental health professionals would mean a greater reach of essential psychological support to the populace, addressing a critical gap and making a significant impact on public health at large.
Join me in advocating for the revision of RCI guidelines to include provisions for experienced psychologists to gain direct licensure. Let us push for a system that respects and utilizes the full scope of skills and knowledge modern psychologists offer. We need a path forward that is fair and respects our dedication to mental health.
Sign this petition to help create a future where experienced mental health professionals are recognized and licensure progress is unhindered by outdated procedures. Your signature can help change the careers of many and improve accessibility to essential mental health services throughout the country.
