Revise Occupancy Limits for 1 Family Dwellings /Public Lodging Establishments in Largo
The Issue
I am a resident of Largo, Florida and am deeply concerned with the current occupancy limit for single-family dwellings licensed as public lodging establishments. This concern arose from personal experience on my cul-de-sac where a 3-bedroom house is repeatedly being rented out to parties of up to 14 adult guests. Children and dogs are also welcome per the advertisement. This grossly exceeds a reasonable person-per-square-foot ratio, resulting in various public safety issues.
Overflowing trash cans from the excessive occupant load have become a common sight, littering our streets and attracting crows and rodents to our neighborhood. Meanwhile, the excessive number of vehicles parked indiscriminately by the guests poses a significant hazard. They hinder access for fire trucks, emergency vehicles, garbage trucks, and even basic services like lawn maintenance, making our community less safe and less clean. The congestion of cars also increases the risk to our neighborhood children playing outside.
I am, therefore, appealing for a revision in regulations - changing the maximum occupancy load for one-family dwellings licensed as public lodging establishments from 150 square feet gross floor area per person to no less than 300 square feet of living area per person. It is crucial to limit the number of people that can occupy a dwelling at any given time to prevent further disruption to the peace and safety of our neighborhood.
It is time to prioritize the wellbeing of the residents of Largo, FL and make our neighborhoods cleaner and safer. Please sign this petition if you agree with this proposed change and seek a balanced approach to maintaining the charm and safety of our community.
