Revise Fisher College cafeteria operation and service

Revise Fisher College cafeteria operation and service
The Issue
As a student at Fisher College in Boston, MA, I and many others struggle with the current cafeteria service, which is vital for our daily living and academic success. The cafeteria's current operational hours and service limitations are insufficient and incompatible with the diverse schedules and needs of students.
**Firstly, the current cafeteria hours are too narrow.** The cafeteria is open from morning until the evening, but it closes at 7:00 PM on most days, 6:30 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, and as early as 6:00 PM on Sundays ("Fisher", 2025). This schedule is restrictive and does not accommodate students who have late classes, internships, or other commitments, leaving many without access to necessary meals after a long day.
**Secondly, the current meal access policy is restrictive.** All residential students must purchase a declining balance meal plan, which limits their meal access throughout the day and does not allow them to eat as much as they need. The amount of food you can eat through the semester is also limited, which is inconvenient for those who wish to seek to achieve their required caloric daily intake, specially athletes.
**We propose a solution to improve these conditions: a revision of the cafeteria operation should introduce two shifts, each 4 hours long, to better manage and optimize its hours.** This would mean having a breakfast to lunch shift, followed by a closure, and then reopening for a dinner shift. This setup would maximize the cafeteria’s usage without any wasted open hours.
**Furthermore, students should have access to the cafeteria three times daily, with the freedom to choose what they eat and take food out up to a certain amount.** This adjustment ensures that students do not miss meals and can focus on their studies without the stress of not being able to eat enough food.
Improving these aspects will significantly boost student satisfaction and welfare, making Fisher College a more welcoming and supportive environment for its students. I urge the Fisher College administration to take action and make these necessary changes. Please sign this petition to support the enhancement of our cafeteria services.
