The Issue

In Thornton, Colorado, my children and many others face challenges simply for pursuing a hobby that keeps them out of trouble. My best friends son, a good kid who stays away from gangs and drugs, was arrested for riding his dirt bike on the streets. Despite only engaging in an activity he loves, my best friends son now faces a $15,000 cash-only bond. This passion is what keeps him happy and grounded, yet he faces legal penalties similar to serious criminals.

In our community, children and teenagers should have the freedom to enjoy their hobbies, especially when these activities steer them in a positive direction. Unfortunately, Thornton lacks designated areas for kids to ride their dirt bikes safely and legally. This forces them onto the streets, where they risk legal action.

Riding dirt bikes is not a crime, it’s a passion, and our kids deserve better options. We propose the creation of designated dirt biking areas within our community. This solution would not only provide a safe environment for young dirt bike enthusiasts but also prevent unnecessary confrontations with law enforcement.

The community of Thornton must come together to support our youth and their interests, rather than criminalize them. Let's advocate for a solution that supports the positive activities of our children.

Join us in urging local officials to revise current laws and invest in a dirt biking area in Thornton. Our kids deserve a safe place to ride. Please sign this petition to help make it happen.
