Sharing and signing is more than enough, this is not a money grab, but an attempt to get the city council to act.
THE PROBLEM AT HAND:
CURRENT CITY LAWS AND REGULATIONS PROHIBITS ALL VENDORS FROM LEGALLY SELLING AT THEIR PARKS.
CALL TO ACTION:
Last year, Val, my ice cream woman, has been threatened with a $700 fine because she endeavors to serve ice cream in our city parks – an act for which her intentions are nothing but pure. Originally she was on a verbal agreement to vend to parks for years.
Being a follower of the law. She has petitioned the city council multiple times, showing only respect for the rules by attending a meeting. Despite this, she’s been denied. Under the pretext of the laws enacted are to keep the parks clean.
Why should only a few trucks be allowed to enjoy the privilege while the rule followers suffer. Val's Ice Cream Truck, which wishes to operate within the legal framework, should equally be allowed to serve in city parks. This isn't about business; it's about fairness, opportunity, and maintaining the delightful tradition of enjoying an ice cream in the park.
As a small business owner she has lost one of her biggest customers for one summer and due to lose them this summer as well. Kids have asked her "what did I do wrong?" because she passes by them waving her down from inside the park.
Our city's parks are accessible and open, and so should they be for the vibrant ice cream service that is ready to contribute positively to the community. Allowing licensed ice cream vendors to operate within the park will not only enhance our children’s park experience but will also contribute to local economic prosperity.
We must urge the city council to reconsider their stance and work on creating a fair permit process that enables reputable ice cream trucks, like Val’s, to operate freely and legally in our parks. Let's make enjoying ice cream in the park a symbol of joy, nostalgia and community spirit once again for everyone. Small businesses here need help to thrive.
THE PLAN:
To use this petition to gather like-minded individuals. Then to use our voice to petition the city council to enact regulations that allow vendors through the parks in some level that is fair and lets small businesses thrive.
THE RESOLUTION:
For this to be considered a victory we simply need regulations. Regulations on the books to allow vending of some capacity in the city parks that benefits all parties.
Please feel no need to donate.
The best action you can do now is to sign and help with emails. We will start email blasts when the petition reaches benchmark goals and can impact this. Thank you.
