Revise Bylaws to Permit More Than Three Dogs per Property and Grant Kennel Licenses

The Issue

We have shared our home with more than three dogs for over 20 years. These dogs, who have become family, are well-cared for, obedient, and respectful to our neighbors. Adhering to all regulations, they remain on property and do not run at large. And despite stereotypes, they are quiet, only barking occasionally.

Our concern rests with the current bylaws that limit the number of dogs per property to three and restrict kennel licenses to a specified acreage in lots 20-21, concessions 8-9. As responsible and experienced dog owners, we believe this disproportionally impacts those capable of handling a larger number of dogs without negatively affecting the community.

In Canada, where our lot is located, it is estimated that approximately 35% of households own one or more dogs (Canadian Animal Health Institute, 2018). Our bylaws should reflect our community's passion for dogs and allow for greater flexibility.

Therefore, we propose two adjustments to the bylaws: First, raise the limit of dogs permitted per property. Second, grant kennel licenses to properties in lots 20-21, concessions 8-9 regardless of acreage.

By changing these bylaws, we can ensure that dedicated and loving dog owners, like us, are not penalized for their commitment to their pets. Please sign this petition and help us advocate for a more inclusive and dog-friendly neighbourhood.
