The presence of Turning Point USA (TPUSA) at CVHS is a concern for many students and community members. TPUSA is recognized for having strong affiliations with far-right racist ideologies. Kirk’s rhetoric included calling trans individuals “a disgrace to god”, calling the civil rights movement “a disgrace”, and fighting for Christian nationalism in American schools and framing other religions such as the Islam faith as savage.

Yet, Capo’s TPUSA organization poses as neutral, “open” political discussion on campuses, which can potentially trick other students into searching about TPUSA on their own and believing far-right ideas to be “neutral” and okay to believe. From showing PragerU and pushing it to be “in the middle”, to members actively trying to mass report students for holding a different political views, this club is abusing their protection to indoctrinate and harm other students.

This club has made plenty of students feel disgust and disappointment within Capistrano Valley High School for normalizing a club that has ties to a man who was openly hateful. Students also feel as if they’re being mislead because the club is masking to be neutral despite showing media that leans toward making far right ideas look neutral.
