The Issue

Manchester Airport has introduced a new collection point for overheight vehicles, accompanied by drop-off and collection fees that many of us find unjustifiable. These changes have resulted in passengers being required to walk approximately 10 minutes outdoors to get to their transport, raising concerns over inclusivity and accessibility, especially for those requiring assistance and wheelchair users.

Speaking as a private hire vehicle operator who has experienced these challenges first-hand, I am deeply troubled by the airport's approach towards passengers and service providers like us. In a recent article, it was revealed that Manchester Airport amassed £127 million from parking fees last year. This staggering figure further underscores the notion that the airport sees private hire vehicles as competition to their profits, rather than acknowledging us as essential partners facilitating smooth travel experiences.

The newly-imposed fees and distance to the transportation point create significant obstacles for passengers who depend on private hire services. People traveling with disabilities, elderly individuals, and families with young children face particular hardship due to these policies. Shouldn't the airport's priority be ensuring all travelers have access to an efficient and comfortable transport system?

This situation calls for Manchester Airport to revisit their policies with a view to fostering a more passenger-friendly environment. Here is what we are urging them to consider:

1. **Re-evaluate the location and Accessibility of the New Collection Point** – Ensure that all passengers, including those with mobility challenges, can access their transport swiftly and safely without enduring long outdoor walks.

2. **Transparent Explanation for Fees** – Provide a clear and detailed rationale for the imposition of high drop-off and collection fees, explaining exactly how the funds are being used to benefit airport users.

3. **Facilitate Better Engagement with Transport Service Providers** – Appreciate and collaborate with private hire vehicles rather than treating them as adversaries. Without us, many passengers would struggle to access the airport.

It's time to demand transparency, fairness, and accessibility at Manchester Airport. By signing this petition, you will join us in urging the airport authority to take necessary actions to improve transportation access and work more closely with service providers. Please add your signature to help ensure Manchester Airport caters to the needs of all its users.
